Godzilla Returns, So Does Jennifer Lawrence, and Netflix Has Ads Now
TGIF, my newsletter friends. It's Friday, and we all want to head out to embrace the weekend, so let's get to it. The latest /Film Newsletter is full of that cool, hip content all the kids love. I'm talking stories about a new Godzilla movie, a review of a new Jennifer Lawrence film, news about changes for streaming services Netflix and HBO Max, and much, much more.
Have You Heard the News?
Toho has announced a new Godzilla movie is on the way, arriving in 2023.
Warner Bros. Discovery is merging HBO Max and Discovery+ into one big streaming service, and that service will be available next spring.
In other streaming service news, Netflix has an option for ads now! Also: the ad-based version of Netflix excludes several big titles, just to make this whole idea extra messy.
Here's why Andy Serkis didn't come back to direct Venom 3.
Guy Ritchie's The Gentlemen is becoming a Netflix series now. Aside from some great costumes and a very game Hugh Grant performance, the film wasn't very good, so maybe the show will be an improvement.
The new Salem's Lot movie got delayed until 2023, but star Lewis Pullman says the film is very faithful to Stephen King's novel, so that's something.
Reviews
Jennifer Lawrence is back with Causeway, an Apple TV+ film that also stars Brian Tyree Henry. Here's my review.
Jeff Ewing reviews Enola Holmes 2, a charming film that's better than the first.
Ethan Anderton says Director By Night is the best Marvel behind-the-scenes documentary yet.
Here's Erin Brady's review of All Jacked Up and Full of Worms, a movie about being all jacked up and full of worms.
Weird: The Al Yankovic Story is now streaming (for free!) on the Roku Channel. Here's my review from TIFF.

Video of the Day
Today's Video of the Day is all about how they make people fly in movies and on TV. It turns out they're really flying with the help of magic! Oh wait, that's not true at all. Sorry. It's actually a bunch of wires and greenscreen work.
