James Gunn Takes Over DC, Batman Gets Some Cologne, Rian Johnson and Natasha Lyonne Solve Some Mysteries
Warner Bros. has been on the lookout for someone to guide their DC films, similar to how Disney has hat-enthusiast Kevin Feige running Marvel movies. A long, long time ago, Zack Snyder was the guy more or less in charge of that.
But after a series of not-so-great films coupled with personal matters, Snyder's tenure is over and now the folks at Warners have not one but two folks heading up their DC features going forward.
That's just one of the stories in this week's newsletter. You'll also find a trailer for The Guardians Of The Galaxy Holiday Special, a story about Batman's cologne (yes, really), a review of the latest episode of Andor, a new Rian Johnson mystery series starring Natasha Lyonne, and much more.
Have You Heard the News?
The biggest news of the week (so far) is that Warner Bros. has tapped James Gunn and Peter Safran to lead the charge on DC-related projects, including films, TV, and animation. Gunn is no stranger to DC, having directed The Suicide Squad and created its spin-off HBO Max series Peacemaker. Safran is a producer of Aquaman, Shazam!, Annabelle Comes Home, The Nun, and more. Will this move help Warner Bros. fix its messy DC Universe? We'll see!
Let's keep the James Gunn news coming: here's a trailer for the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, set to hit Disney+ on November 25, 2022.
There is now an official The Batman cologne. What does it smell like? Justice, of course. And I guess sweat since Batman probably sweats a lot in that suit.
And now for some cologne-free Batman news. The Arkham Asylum HBO Max show has a new showrunner: Antonio Campos, the filmmaker who was also the showrunner on the excellent adaptation of The Staircase.
Here's some non-superhero news. Rian Johnson, confirmed fan of mysteries, made a new mystery series for Peacock called Poker Face. That's exciting news all on its own, but it gets even more exciting: Natasha Lyonne is the star of the show, and the one tasked with solving all those mysteries. Watch the Poker Face trailer here.
