Opening Guillermo del Toro's Cabinet of Curiosities, Checking Into the White Lotus, Embracing Quantumania
And we're back! The newsletter hit a bit of a snag last week due to technical errors on the site that hosts the whole dang thing. Now, the problem is fixed (unless it isn't and you didn't receive this, in which case I can say whatever I want! No rules, just anarchy). We all thought the future would be full of flying cars and jobs at Spacely Space Sprockets, Inc. Instead, we must contend with newsletter hosts crashing. So it goes.
In this issue of the /Film Newsletter, we've got reviews of The White Lotus season 2, Guillermo del Toro's Cabinet of Curiosities, and more. We also have some news about Henry Cavill's Superman, a trailer for Ant-Man 3, an exclusive interview with The Lord of the Rings: The Rings Of Power orchestrators, and much, much more.
Have You Heard the News?
It's the worst-kept secret in superhero movies at this point, but now it's 100% official: Henry Cavill is back as Superman. Cavill confirmed this himself, so if you think this is a spoiler, yell at him, please. I am just the messenger.
Ant-Man And The Wasp: Quantumania, the third entry in the Ant-Man series, now has a trailer. The sequel, which stars Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lilly, Michael Douglas, Michelle Pfeiffer, Kathryn Newton, and Jonathan Majors, shrinks into theaters in February.
Horror flicks Smile and Terrifier 2 both had great weekends at the box office. But their fellow horror title, Halloween Ends, did not. And as America's #1 Halloween End fan, that makes me sad. Then again, Halloween Ends is currently streaming on Peacock, so folks might not be running to the theater to see it when they can watch from the couch.
Speaking of the box office, this news is not very surprising, but it looks like Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is on track for a huge opening weekend.
The new Doctor Who teaser reveals a regeneration gone wrong (this probably counts as a spoiler, so click at your own risk!).
Tim Burton, who has made more than a few films for Disney, recently called the House of Mouse a "horrible big circus." Also, Horrible Big Circus sounds like it could be the title of the next Tim Burton movie.
The Conjuring 4 is officially happening, and I, for one, cannot wait to see Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson hunt some ghosts again. Maybe they can bring their pal Annabelle along, too.
