Wakanda Forever Early Reactions, the Chicago International Film Festival, the Perfection of Perfect Blue
The highly-anticipated Marvel movie Black Panther: Wakanda Forever had its premiere last night. The film isn't officially out until November 11, so a big premiere this early is a sign Disney is pretty darn happy with the movie, and the early reactions bear that out — they're quite positive across the board.
Of course, it's worth noting this is a small sampling of quick takes, and there will be much more to come. I'm not saying the movie isn't good — it looks fantastic, and I can't wait to see it! I'm just saying take all of this with a grain of salt for now.
The Wakanda Forever reactions are included in today's /Film Newsletter, along with a look at the Chicago International Film Festival, a piece praising Perfect Blue, a potential Night of the Living Dead reboot, and much more.
Have You Heard the News?
As mentioned above, the first reactions for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever are in, and you can read 'em right here. Everyone seems to love it.
Nikyatu Jusu, director of the well-received indie horror pic Nanny, has been brought in to helm a Night of the Living Dead reboot based on George A. Romero's iconic zombie film. I'm sure some folks will grumble at the idea of a reboot of this classic, but I'm curious. Besides: it was already remade once before in 1990, with the legendary Tom Savini directing.
Speaking of reboots, Bryan Cranston is apparently working on...*checks notes*...a Malcolm in the Middle reboot. Uh, sure! Why not!
Disney head honcho Bob Chapek says the House of Mouse is done buying everything and anything they can get their hands on. We'll see, Bob!
Hugh Jackman is coming back to play Wolverine in Deadpool 3, and apparently, it was Jackman's idea. That's fine, Hugh, but when are you going to give the people what they really want? I'm talking, of course, about The Greatest Showman 2: The Even Greater Showman.
Sausage Party, the animated movie about uncouth foodstuffs copulating, is continuing its story as an Amazon series.
Mike Flanagan knows a thing or two about directing Stephen King adaptations, and he recently revealed what he would do if he were given the chance to direct a Dark Tower movie. Unsurprisingly, Flanagan's approach sounds pitch-perfect, so someone might want to go ahead and give him the gig.

Video of the Day
Today's Video of the Day is a delightfully archaic commercial to coincide with spooky season, which is sadly almost at its end (unless you're like me, and every season is spooky season). The commercial features the legendary Vincent Price pitching viewers on VHS tapes from Polaroid.
You see, kids, once upon a time we used to have video cassettes we would play on VCRs. Then we'd all head down to the train station in our horse-drawn carriages to wait for the next shipment of barleycorn!
