At the Mountains of Madness, Fleishman Is In Trouble, A Farewell to Pop Culture Imports
Several years ago, Guillermo del Toro wanted to make a big, expensive, R-rated adaptation of H.P. Lovecraft's At the Mountains of Madness, with Tom Cruise likely to star. Sounds amazing, right?
Well, back then, del Toro had yet to score himself the Oscars he'd win for The Shape of Water, which meant he didn't have as much clout as he has now. As a result, At the Mountains of Madness was never made. It remains one of those great "what if?" movies.
And now, just to make us more upset that we never got it, del Toro has shared never-before-seen (digital) test footage. It's quick and creepy, and it makes me want to see this movie even more. You can check out the footage below in the /Film Newsletter, along with several great new stories, reviews, features, and more, all from your pals at slash film dot com.
Have You Heard the News?
The trailer for John Wick: Chapter 4 is here, and as you might assume, it rules.
Not too long ago there were rumblings of an It prequel HBO Max series called Welcome to Derry. Well, it looks like that show is one step closer to really happening — because showrunners have been hired.
Somehow, Taylor Sheridan's Wind River is getting a sequel.
In not-so-surprising news, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is headed to a big opening weekend at the box office.
Avatar 2, aka Avatar: The Way of Water, is going to clock in at over 3 hours. But director James Cameron swears that lengthy runtime serves a purpose.
Here's the previously mentioned test footage for Guillermo del Toro's At the Mountains of Madness. Someone please let him make this movie. Please.

Features and Exclusives
I am extremely sad to say my fellow editor and critic Hoai-Tran Bui has left /Film for a job at another site (Inverse). Before she left, though, HT gave us one final edition of her streaming column Pop Culture Imports.
We all love Cate Blanchett, so here are 18 of her best movies, ranked.
Here's some more of that hip Guillermo del Toro content! A look at the most disturbing moments from his Netflix series Cabinet of Curiosities.
On the classic Hollywood front, here are 10 underrated Cary Grant movies you should check out.
Video of the Day
Today's Video of the Day is the original trailer for Psycho. But this isn't your typical trailer. Instead, Alfred Hitchcock walks you through the Bates Motel (and Bates house) sets, acting like they're real places — and the scenes of real crimes. That's right, this is like a mini true crime documentary and a trailer all in one.
