At the Mountains of Madness, Fleishman Is In Trouble, A Farewell to Pop Culture Imports
slashfilm.substack.com
Several years ago, Guillermo del Toro wanted to make a big, expensive, R-rated adaptation of H.P. Lovecraft's At the Mountains of Madness, with Tom Cruise likely to star. Sounds amazing, right? Well, back then, del Toro had yet to score himself the Oscars he'd win for The Shape of Water, which meant he didn't have as much clout as he has now. As a result, At the Mountains of Madness was never made. It remains one of those great "what if?" movies. And now, just to make us more upset that we never got it, del Toro has shared never-before-seen (digital) test footage. It's quick and creepy, and it makes me want to see this movie even more. You can check out the footage below in the /Film Newsletter, along with several great new stories, reviews, features, and more, all from your pals at slash film dot com.
